Bye Everyone!
I've moved on from Paris…to Sunny CA. My time in Paris was lovely in so many ways, and I will always treasure my memories from those three glorious years.
Off to new adventures in Berkeley!
We'll always have Paris…

It WAS a Movie!
Sure enough, all those trailers and cones were for a movie. There were huge lights set up just across the street from me at one of the hospitals that dot my street.
I spoke with one of the security people (that kept all of us onlookers far away), and she said it was for a French movie that sounded something like "Fonzie." (I certainly wasn't going to ask her to spell it!)
And I was right about the catering truck. They were carrying gorgeous salads out of the truck and serving them to the waiting hordes dining in tents set up on an empty lot. There were lots of people milling about and I was feeling a little paparazzi-ish, so I just took a picture of the truck.
Now I just have to look out for a French movie about Fonzie!
Happy Saturday.

Movies in my 'Hood
Orange traffic cones showed up in force yesterday in my 'hood, blocking the access to at least 40-50 prime parking places. It's actually quite impressive. Why you ask? Because everyone either just runs over the cones or moves them in order to park in the blocked off spaces. France! I love it!
From the Studio-Phil website I figured out that these are mobile film trailers for hire. The one above seems to be costumes and hair and makeup.
The reason for the cones showed up overnight with the arrival of this.
As the day went on at least 8 more trucks of various sizes started showing up. One has two dressing rooms labeled with the names "Diego" and "Elsa," and when a curious schoolgirl went up to the door a huge roadie jumped out of the cab and asked her what she was doing. I couldn't really stop and stare at that point, so I didn't get to hear what she asked him.
By the smells coming out of this mobile catering truck everyone will be eating well tomorrow! (Of course I managed to get the lady sweeping and not the two chefs cooking up a storm.)
One of the 4-5 trucks with gear and lights, and in the distance you can see a red cherry picker. It had a couple of huge lights mounted on it.
The no parking signs say the "event" will happen tomorrow from 8h00 to 20h00. I'm excited to see what the event is!
Oh, and I'm secretly hoping that "Diego" is Jeremy Renner and "Elsa" is Rachel Weisz. (I watched The Bourne Legacy last night.)
I'll keep you posted! And if you haven't followed me on Twitter yet, now's the time! @parisreally

Oysters for Breakfast
I love oysters. Any and all oysters, and I'm in heaven in France as they have the most wonderful selection of these delicious bivalves. I've eaten oysters from the West and East Coasts of the US, Canada, The Gulf of Mexico, the UK, France, Ireland, and they all have their unique attributes. I love them all. What I've never done? Eaten oysters in an airport. Until now. Traveling through Charles de Gaulle airport the other day I stumbled upon an oyster bar setting up for the day. Unfortunately they weren't serving yet. Luckily for me when I arrived in Heathrow the same chain was stocking a nice selection of British oysters. (I wish I would have been awake enough to write down what they were!)
A quick six and I was smitten. They were a bit creamier than their French cousins, with a tangy mineral edge. I wish I could have stayed for more, but my plane was boarding! What a great option for the oyster loving traveller.

Chipotle London - Baker St. and MORE!
When we first visited London we made a point to visit Chipotle as the Paris Location was not open yet. See here. Once our most beloved Damon opened the Paris location we were happy. Very happy. You can see my comprehensive post here. Oh how I love Chipotle!
When we went back recently we made sure to visit the Baker St. location.
Everything was great as usual, and we thought we were all cooler than school since we've been to all three European Chipotle restaurants, but then we saw THIS!
Chipotle was hiring for three additional locations! I just checked the website, and there are now FIVE locations listed for London! Along with the Baker St. and Charing Cross Road locations, there are new Chipotle's in Soho on Wardour Street, St. Martins Lane in Covent Garden and Upper Street in Islington. Time to book some Eurostar tickets for a long weekend!
Happy Chipotle Londoners!

No line since we never seem to eat at "regular" times. Good for us!
I swapped the normal amount of carnitas for extra guac. Mmmmmmm.

Ick
The city looks so small from afar. The beauty of Paris is dampened only by the ugly smog that sits in a layer over the city. (I suppose the fire in the foreground doesn't help.) Looking back into Paris I'm reminded that it's probably a good idea to get out of the city to fresh clean air on occasion. I'm afraid we don't do that enough. Perhaps this weekend?

Magnet Monday!
I've been meaning to do this for a long time. Over the last 20 years or so I've been collecting magnets. It's a lot less bulky than let's say, garden gnomes, Elvis clocks, ceramic pigs or something of the sort. Plus they are easy to move, and the kids love to hear about where and when we collected them. And now that I've successfully infected them with the magnet bug, wherever we go we try to pick the perfect magnet to celebrate our visit. Some day they will have quite a collection themselves. Sadly some of my favorites have broken this past year, and before any more do, I want a lasting history of sorts of my life in magnets.
This is perhaps my favorite, and if you have children you can probably relate.
My Mom is wicked smart, and darn it! She WAS pretty much right about everything! I hope The Girl thinks the same of me some day. I can only try my best.
It may take me years to get through them all, but I promise that every one will have a story.
Happy Monday!

Now THIS is My Kind of Car!
I've always been a sucker for fins, and this is one good looking example of American engineering at its most creative!
I saw this beauty on the 29th of July parked in front of the Place Trocadéro facing the Tour Eiffel. I had been on a walking tour of highlights of the 16th, and had forgotten that the Traversée de Paris was happening that day. This is a twice yearly event where you see the period costumed owners of about 500 classic cars, motorcycles, commercial vehicles, war time vehicles, buses and even tractors promenade across Paris. We got to see quite a few of them head down Avenue du Président Wilson, and I just have to say, they really should bring back turquoise as a modern paint color option! It really is quite a spectacle, one I think I'll put on my calendar for the winter edition.

Chipotle London - Baker St.
We're off to the last Chipotle in Europe we haven't been to yet! We're in London for the Olympics and instead of hitting the big Olympic venues today we're headed to Baker St. for carnitas!
Pictures to follow!

Chipotle Paris...A Dream Realized...with Pictures
Those who know me know that I have an unhealthy obsession with Chipotle. OK. Maybe a healthy one. There have been times in my life that I wouldn't go 7 days without at least guac and chips, but most likely a carnitas burrito bowl. I credit Chipotle with the fact that my kids are smart since I ate so many good fats in the form of lots and lots and lots of guac when I was pregnant.
Today Chipotle opened in Paris, my current city of residence. I have been waiting for this since before we even left VA. I've badgered Corporate, and I'm sure Rusty and Joe at @ChipotleTweets would like me to take a long vacation. But it was all worth it.
Today I picked up Cousin Joey at CDG and headed into the city for our first taste of what I consider the best American "convenience" food (I refuse to say "fast") to be exported to France. I was not disappointed.
I was lucky enough to meet and chat with the manager, who seems like a great guy. This was a big move for Chipotle. The clientele seemed to be at least 90% local, so the word must be getting out that Chipotle has quality food, served quickly. I wish the best to Damon and his crew. Now...do you think I could convince them to open one in my neighborhood???
Chipotle Paris
20 Boulevard Montmartre 75009
Open 7/7 11h00-22h00
Metro Richelieu Drouot on the 8 or 9
Or by Bus on the 20, 39, 48, 67, 74 or 85
(Seriously people...with that many ways to get to Chipotle what is your excuse?!!)

This was taken from the car. I'm pretty sure I almost shed a tear. Can we safely say that white shirts and dark denim are in this season?
Hey look! A line! This is so unusual for Paris!
That guys' hair is almost as awesome as the fact that I'm about to get a burrito bowl in Paris. Oops. I meant an Assiette de Burrito.

Chipotle London & Almost Paris
Rusty of @ChipotleTweets has confirmed today that the Grand Opening of the first (of hopefully many) Paris locations is a go for the 24th of May. That's next week! I couldn't wait though, and while in London we hit The Charing Cross location. The food was WONDERFUL, and Chris the Chipotle Guy even sat down with us for a chat. I love my carnitas, and I can't wait to have a nice bowl covered in medium salsa next week in my 'hood!

Maurice Sendak
Maurice Sendak was a big part of my childhood. I loved all of his stories, and used to sing Carole King's Really Rosie songs until my Dad probably wanted to tear his hear out. I've even got them in iTunes now and have brainwashed my children. Right now One Was Johnny is playing in my head.
A funny thing happened yesterday morning. My kids have something called a Little Touch LeapPad that they used to love to play with before we moved to Paris. However when we unpacked it last September the batteries were dead. I never managed to get around to replacing them. (I believe it was # 8,943rd on my To Do List. I just completed # 227.) While I was sitting in the playroom yesterday morning I suddenly decided I was going to pull it out and change the batteries. When I did, I noticed the book Where the Wild Things Are was on it.
I felt warm and happy for just a moment, and had a few Happy Thoughts for the man who created so many things I love.
Later in the day I learned of his death.
I got goosebumps. I don't think I'll know what possessed me to pick up the LeapPad yesterday, but I'm sure glad I did.
Rest In Peace Maurice Sendak.

Typical Airport Food, French Style
I can safely say you would not find the pictured airport snacks anywhere in the United States. At CDG the offerings include Champagne, a dozen choices of stinky cheese, foie gras and caviar. God I love this country.

What a Difference a Week Makes
Spring is springing up all over Paris. (Or should I say spring has sprung?) Seriously, the pollen is making me nuts. Or at least that's what I'd like to blame my runny nose and sore throat on. I can't be sick again, can I? Were the 293 illnesses I've had in the nine months I've lived here not enough? Do I really need to catch EVERYTHING going around France? I know, rhetorical question.
Back to spring. Paris in the spring really is gorgeous. Cliché as it is, if you have the chance to visit Paris in the spring, jump on it.
This was the view from my window last week.
And this is my view today.
The lack of color was really starting to get to me, and the grey skies that lasted for months? Totally depressing. Now I just wander around the city taking pictures of the blue sky. Sooner or later I'm going to step in dog poop.
Winter in Paris was tough, but as long as I can have a few days of blue skies thrown in with the normal slightly overcast/smoggy skies I will be happy.
Happy Spring Friends.
